PWEs from Fuji and Jon

Quick post today because I'm planning a much longer one for Friday and I still haven't returned to regular commenting.

I've been scouring eBay looking for that big piece to add to my collection and so far I've been much too cautious. The prices are higher than I expect (which usually happens with auctions) and the one card I really want hasn't come back down to the price it was before i had the money to buy it. 

I saw a nice Pee Wee Reese 1956 Topps card just before I left work yesterday. I added it to my watch list, but by the time I got home someone bought it. It's just as well. I probably would have delayed a decision on it until it sold - like I've done with the Hank Aaron and Willie Mays cards that were on my watch list. 

You know what would be great? If there was a major sports card and memorabilia convention nearby with both high end and low end cards that I could purchase all at once without paying tax or shipping fees. Sigh...


Thankfully I've been perked up by a pair of PWEs from two of my favourite* bloggers.

 This Kevin Youkilis mini is one of 15 Red Sox cards in the latest care package from Fuji.

This PWE was full of neat inserts and parallels. 

Some Han-Ram here, and a purple refractor of blogger favorite Henry Owens.


Here are some cards I picked from Jon's Free Stuff Friday offerings:

Williams, Chesbro, and Bonds will go into my All-Time Teams binder (I'm rebooting that series when the 2020 baseball season starts -- assuming it starts on time.) I used to have a bunch of those Brett Favre NFL on Fox booklets and it's nice to have it back in my PC.

Thanks for the cards fellas, they were a nice surprise when I definitely needed one.

50/50 trading - Oh, Canada!

I wish I had time to discuss sports/sports card topics not related to my 50/50 trading post - like the Justin Verlander trade or the upcoming NFL season, or what new card sets await us in late 2017. Unfortunately I haven't had time to do much creative blogging (I can't even keep up with my other blog and reply to my six or seven friends there.) 

So here's another trade package thank-you post. Today's mailer comes courtesy of Captain Canuck:

Brian asked if I'd be okay shipping north of the border, which I was. I've noticed that some traders won't because the cost is prohibitive. (It's a major reason why I don't sell eBay items internationally anymore.) After shipping three packages to Canada for $9.50 each I might have to do the same - which would be a drag because there are so many great traders up north.

This is the kind of mailer I'd be missing out on if I stopped shipping to Canada:

Ten cards for my 2015-16 O-Pee-Chee Retro Franken-set. I'll scan each card individually once I complete it (it's only 100 cards)

...and my first card from 2017-18. The Cammalleri Ice is very nice, too. I was surprised the Devs bought him out in the off-season, but I wont be surprised if he has a bounce-back year with his original team, the L.A. Kings.

I don't disagree with those who say Justin Verlander should have won last year's Cy Young over Rick Porcello - but I will strongly disagree with anyone who says Chris Sale doesn't deserve it this year.

 This might be my favorite card of the lot (though the Cammi Ice base is a close second)

I know Topps doesn't always match the date/year on the card to the photo, but Nomar looks so young in this pic; if it's not from '94 it's certainly not far off.

Thanks for the trade, Brian. I appreciate the cross-border trades, I know how expensive it is to ship internationally...

What?!?? It cost $3.35 Canadian? That's less than I paid to send a similar sized package to a trader within NJ. 

Damn, Canada. You've got hockey everywhere, a leader that isn't embarrassing, and your postal rates are cheap? 

Got room for one more up there?
